Workforce Performance Assessment: The Kamatics division of Connecticut-based Kaman Corp. was faced with a challenge: Its talented workforce was aging and there was a lack of qualified machinists in the pipeline. After weighing their options, human resources decided to try a different approach and turned to Tooling U-SME to assess their OJT program and help figure out how to combine existing tribal knowledge with classroom training.
Not Your Grandpa's Apprenticeship: The modern-day apprenticeship is geared toward an industry standard with a competency-based approach. It tracks the Related Training Instruction (RTI) required for apprenticeship education and the OJT skills a worker should perform over the years of development. This solid framework defines specific knowledge and skill requirements that align with common apprenticeship job functions.
